Professor Vaneeta D’Andrea has been a higher education manager for over 22 years in the USA and the UK. The range of responsibilities she has managed include: academic and business planning, academic quality and programmes, academic services, associated institutions, budget allocation and monitoring, estates development, international development, marketing and enterprise, research developments, online learning and web strategies. She has led on change management in four UK higher education institutions including: University of Roehampton, City University, Oxford University and the University of the Arts London. The QAAHE reviews of Roehampton and City Universities commended two of these developments as examples of best practice.
She has worked as an international higher education consultant for over two decades. Her activities in this area were featured in a piece on ‘portfolio academics’ in the Times Higher Education Supplement in May 2001. She has held consultancy posts in the USA and the UK; including the American Sociological Association (USA), the Oxford Centre for Staff and Learning Development (UK) and she was the Co-Director of Critical Change Consultants from 2001-2005. She has been a consultant to universities and governments on a range of higher education issues in Africa, Central Asia, Europe, the Gulf States, and North America. She has lead consultancy projects for the British Council and the Soros Open Society Institute.
In addition she has held secondments as Co-Director of the Teaching Quality Enhancement Fund, National Coordination Team for the Higher Education Funding Council for England, as Lecturer in the Department of Educational Studies and Fellow of Kellogg College at Oxford University, and Assistant Director of Quality Enhancement at the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (UK), the former Higher Education Quality Council. She has held professorships at City University (personal chair), the Open University and the University of the Arts London.
Her recent publications include articles on topics ranging from: branding in higher education, educational development, educational research methods, higher education policy, quality enhancement in higher education, national programmes to promote excellence in teaching in higher education, and scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL). Her most recent book Improving Teaching and Learning in Higher Education: a whole institution approach (McGraw Hill) has received very positive reviews.She has received numerous awards for her work as an educator from regional and national professional associations in the USA and the UK, and is a Carnegie Scholar. At Guilford College (USA) she was a Dana Faculty Fellow and a Fulbright Scholar in India. She has held offices in over ten professional higher education organisations; including Chair of the Heads of Educational Development (UK). Currently she is a member of the Council of the Society for Research in Higher Education and on the Global Advisory Council for the Observatory for Borderless Higher Education.
